NRD Well Permits Approved Following Successful Test Well, Hydrology Study, and Nebraska City Utilities Support
September 2024

The Nemaha County (Nebraska) Natural Resources District has approved 2 new wells to be established by GoodLife Agriculture. These wells will supply water for all aquaculture needs on the farm. This high quality Nebraska groundwater is constantly recharged by the Missouri River. Initial testing showed the primary and back-up wells will not impact those nearby operated by Nebraska City Utilities which supply the city’s residential and commercial customers.
Having a reliable source of water is of course crucial to any aquaculture farm, and is one of the many reasons Nebraska City is a perfect location to raise salmon — despite being over 750 miles from any ocean! GoodLife Agriculture will utilize industry-leading technology and processes to ensure that incoming water is perfectly conditioned for thriving salmon, constantly purified for reuse in the system, and discharged clean as well. The 7.5 million gallons of system water (around 11 Olympic swimming pools, or about 23 acre-feet), just 1/7th will be turned over daily — equivalent to about 1 inch of water applied to 42 acres of Nebraska corn or soy beans, and with no impact on any aquifers.
Check back soon for news about the other vital part of water stewardship — clean and safe discharge water!
